Care Certificate Hub (Independent Care Sector)
Welcome to the Care Certificate Hub (Independent Care Sector).
This Hub is for those working in Independent Care Sector. Those working for the Council should access the Care Certificate Hub (eAssessment) area, as this supports the new delivery model.
The Care Certificate is an agreed set of standards that define the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of workers in care giving health and social care roles. It is made up of 15 Standards that will be covered as part of a structured learning and induction programme.
Care Workers need to demonstrate they have the required knowledge, skills and behaviours that meet the Standards, which can be achieved in a number of ways. However, as a minimum it will include one or more observations of the Care Worker working with Service Users.
The Care Certificate was introduced in April 2015 and applies to all new Care Workers. Those that were already working in the care sector did not have to complete the Certificate whilst working in the same job role with the same employer unless it is felt it would benefit completing it.
New Care Workers, and those without one in a new role, will complete the Care Certificate.
Skills for Care provide a number of resources to help Care Workers develop their knowledge, skills and behaviours and support the completion of the Care Certificate. The Social Care Academy offer a range of learning resources and eLearning that helps Care Workers develop their knowledge, skills and behaviours. These have been developed to meet the requirements of the Care Certificate along with meeting statutory and mandatory learning / training requirements.
Each Independent Care Sector provider will determine how they will support Care Workers and the assessment process. Care Workers should discuss with their line manager how they will be will be supported and assessed.
Further information can be found on the Skills for Care website for the Care Certificate. The following Question Workbooks are provided as an alternative to the combined learning and question workbooks available from Skills for Care.
