Food Safety - Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene for Catering - How to access...

Welcome to the Food Safety - Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene for Catering - How to access... signposting point.  This provides information on how to gain access to complete the Module through the Virtual College.

    • The Virtual College is an external learning provider that we have purchased access to their Food Safety eLearning Module.

The eLearning Module runs on their Learning Management System, so cannot be directly accessed through ASC LeadER.  However, the information provided below outlines how you can get access and complete the eLearning Module.

    • The first step is to request that an Account be created with the Virtual College.  To do this, your Learning and Development Champion, Supervisor or Manager needs to complete the Food Safety Training Referrals spreadsheet and email ascleader@eastriding.gov.uk.

      * * NOTE - Access to the Level 2 Food Safety eLearning IS NOT automatically created when an ASC LeadER Account is set up.  This MUST BE requested separately as noted above. **

    • We will seek to create an account for you within 48 hours of receiving the request from your Learning and Development Champion, Supervisor or Manager.

You will receive Welcome email directly from the Virtual College once the Account has been created.  This will give instructions on how to access your Account and the eLearning Module will be available on your Dashboard.

    • The Virtual College Learning Management System can be accessed on https://eastridingofyorkshirecouncil.vc-enable.co.uk/.

Your Username will always be your email address (the one that was provided when your account was requested).   The Password will be the one that you choose when you first accessed the Account from the Welcome email send by the Learning Management System.   If you have forgotten your Password, please use the Forgotten your password? option on the login screen.

The Virtual College Learning Management System is different to ASC LeadER and we cannot reset you password or provide a temporary password.   All password resets must be made through the Forgotten your password? option on the login screen.

    • Can I complete a face-to-face course instead?

At the present we are not running any face-to-face courses for this topic.  We will review this on a rolling basis, which will consider the current COVID-19 guidance and also the viability of offering a face-to-face option.

Is the eLearning available on ASC LeadER?

No.  We no longer have a approval to use the eLearning Module that we were using on ASC LeadER.  Therefore, we have sought alternative arrangements and are now using the one provided by Virtual College.

Can I use the same account details?

The eLearning from the Virtual College runs on their Learning Management System and needs its own account.  The username on this system will always be your email address (the one that was provided when your account was requested).   You can choose to set the password to the same one you use for ASC LeadER, but this is something you need to do as we cannot set passwords.

I have forgotten my password, can you reset it?

The password reset function runs on a self-service basis only.  You need to use the Forgotten your password? option on the login screen for the Virtual College and provide your email address (the one that was provided when your account was requested).  You will then be sent an email to reset your details.

Can I access the eLearning Module without an Account, like I can with some of the Modules on ASC LeadER?

No.  You must have an Account on the Virtual College Learning Management System to access the eLearning Module.  This is because we have to pay for every Module that is used and access has to be controlled / monitored.

Do I need to complete a Confirmation of Completion?

No.  Your learning will be tracked by the Virtual College Learning Management System and details of successful achievement will be notified on a 7 to 10 day basis to the Quality TAs.

I have completed the Module but it is now showing as complete, can it be recorded as complete?

The eLearning Module will automatically record that it is complete once all the learning is accessed and the assessment is successfully passed.  If it is not showing as complete, it means that something has been missed or you have have not passed the assessment.  Therefore, you need to return to the Module and complete the missing areas and / or the assessment.
